In my travels I've found that people of color all over had the same problem with makeup. I started making my own cosmetics and I was so happy with the result I decided to start my own all natural mineral makeup line specifically formulated for women of color. |

Labor Day with KTLA and Valana Minerals : “This Labor Day was unlike any holiday I've had so far. It was spent with Valerie Reed of Valana Minerals at the African Marketplace in Los Angeles. Not very exciting, sure, but the reason I was there was to help Valerie as her company was showcased on KTLA Morning Show. Valerie makes me so proud. When I hosted my first business class at the San Diego Learning Annex in 2006, the room contained about 10 women who expressed an interest to start a beauty company. There were some wonderful ideas proffered up that day: create a line of makeup for women of color, another wanted to create a line of makeup for women suffering through cancer and another had a great branding idea for a lip balm. Of all those great ideas, as far as I know, Valerie was the only one to bring her idea to fruition.”

I had actually intended to get the name of another product that I had seen on the list before so that I could visit their website. Summer is approaching (I know I know, not until the 21st), and everyone is shedding that extra heavy foundation. "Dear Valana Minerals, I received my sample package Friday. I could not wait to try them. I am happy to say I have found my shade Golden Whisper. I luv your product. It went on so smooth and covered all of my hyperpigmentation. I had a small breakout on my chin. The makeup did not irritate or inflame it more. It actually dried it up! The other thing that really impressed me was when I washed my face....your makeup did not stain my wash cloth. It washed right out with soap and water. No more stained washcloths! I have to say, I LOVE this makeup! The fact that it is an all mineral makeup, and it actually stays on my skin and looks natural is a miracle in itself! I am from a German/Irish/Indian bloodline, and that makes for a fairly unique skin tone. I am pale, but with a pink & olive skin tone, I do not have a bit of beige in my skin and every company that I've ever tried makes their colors with a beige undertone. I have never, NEVER found a makeup that fits me perfectly. (and believe me, I've tried them ALL--i LOVE makeup!) So I was given Valana's FireMist today...I put it on, expecting the inevitable beige line across my chin--and there was nothing! I was wondering if I had even put any on! My only evidence was the (thankfully) absence of pink "splotches" on my face from acne scars. I love this! My skin is the gorgeous, NATURAL, pale olive color that it should be without any lines of demarcation! The lipgloss is beautiful & actually WORKS for me! I'm so excited & ready to show it off! whether my use of it is healthy for my baby. It has been a God-send for my hormone-induced pregnancy acne (I looked like a 16 year old for the first half of my pregnancy). For the past six months I have been using mineral makeup from a local company, and have had to make due with the shades offered for ethnic complexions and I have been searching the web
for companies offering mineral makeup for women of color and saw many companies including Valana minerals. I tried all three today and am so pleased with the quality of the minerals.
I mixed Golden whisper with Earth Sable and the result was great. I also tried them separately. I am going to order a sample of Fire Spice to see how the shade looks on my complexion.

and I used this morning. It is sooooooooooooooo soft and dense; my mineral makeup goes on much smoother than with the kabuki I got from Walgreens.
Is your kabuki brush that full and soft too? The Red Amber that I purchased in the summer looks better on me now than it did in the summer.
I haven't had to blend it with another color. I like the Gentle Amber, especially for the area under the eyes. As you expected the Amber Dream is too dark for me, it is a

“I've used different cosmetic products throughout my life. I've tried the ones I find at my local drug store as well as the ones behind department stores. My needs are rather specific, not just because I have a combination skin in terms of my color, but also in terms of my skin's moisture. I tend to be oily across my forehead and in the past had issues with acne. The products I've used in the past not only have missed the mark in matching my tan to olive undertones, but they did not work with my oily skin.
