GENERAL INGREDIENT LIST (WITH USDA CLASSIFICATIONS AND CAS#s)

Avocado (Persea americana) Butter: This oil adds “slip” to cosmetic products; so cosmetics can be applied smoothly. It’s high in unsaturated fatty acids and can be extracted from avocado seeds.

Bentonite Clay (Bentonitum) Clay (CAS#1302-78-9) (INCI# 215-108-5): Bentonite Clay is highly absorbent, naturally occurring and quarry mined. It is composed of weathered volcanic ash. Our clay is sourced and processed in Wyoming and is food grade.

Castor (Kalopana) Oil: This oil comes from the seed of the Castor plant. Castor oil draws moisture to the skin and is also soothing to the skin. Historically; mothers and grandmothers around the world forced their loved ones to drink a spoonful of castor oil to relieve intestinal distress…and it tastes icky (I miss you Grandma Mae).

Castor Wax (CAS# 225927-34-4)Wax:This wax comes from the seed of the Castor plant. Castor wax seals moisture into the skin and is also soothing to the skin.

Candelilla Wax (Euphorbia antisyphilitica) (232-347-0): This is a light yellow plant-based wax that protects the skin from moisture loss when used in cosmetics.

Carnauba (Copernicia prunifera) Wax: This wax is harvested from the leaves of a palm tree that is native to Brazil. This wax is hard compared to other plant waxes; yellow in color; and it helps to retain moisture when used in cosmetics.

Cocoa Butter (CAS# 8002-31-1): Cocoa butter oil is a medium-weight oil that is solid at room temperature and melts on contact with the skin. This oil is extracted from the seeds of the cocoa tree. In it’s most pure state it smells like chocolate. It can be processed to be unscented.

Coconut Oil (Cocos): This is a heavyweight natural oil that helps the skin retain moisture when used in cosmetics. New production methods offer lightweight versions of this oil.

Cornstarch (CAS# 977050-51-3) or Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea): Two types of vegetable starches. Both are absorbent and are used to thicken cosmetics; absorb oil and reduce shine on oily skin.

Essential Oils: Oil extracts from flowers and plants. Some have homeopathic properties but are largely used as a natural fragrance or natural preservative system.

Ferric Ferrocyanide (CAS# 14038-43-8): A mineral that’s dark blue and used to create various shades of blue color in cosmetics. Ferric Ferrocyanide is not safe for use in lip color (lipstick; lip balm; lip liner; lip gloss; lip tint). It is not approved for human consumption (you can’t eat it).

Iron Oxide (CAS# 1332-37-2): Mineral oxides processed for safety and used to create color in cosmetics.

Jojoba Oil [liquid] / Wax [solid] (Simmondsia chinensis): This wax is extracted from the Jojoba plant. It’s a lightweight wax that is easily absorbed into the skin because its molecular structure is similar the oils produced naturally by your skin. It’s used in cosmetics to retain moisture and helps to maintain skin elasticity.

Kaolin Clay (CAS# 1332-58-7): Kaolin clay is derived from Kaolinite (mineral rock). Once processed for cosmetic use; it’s soft; white; and diffuses light. Kaolin Clay is absorbent and used in setting powders to control shine on oily skin. Historically; Kaolin Clay was used in tonics and medications to soothe stomach upset.

Macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia) Nut Oil: This oil is pressed from Macadamia nuts. It’s a lightweight oil with a light scent. It’s easily absorbed into the skin.

Magnesium Stearate (CAS# 557-04-0) [kosher vegetable derived]: It’s a mineral that is also called Magnesium Salt. It is silvery in color and is not water soluble. It is used in cosmetics to add adhesion and ‘slip;’ making application smooth and product long wearing.

Meadowfoam (Limnanthes) Seed Oil: This oil comes from the seed of the Meadowfoam plant which contains fatty acids and high quality triglicerides; giving this oil its moisturizing properties. This oil also provides natural drug free sunscreen protection from UV and UVB rays.

Mica (CAS#12001-26-2) [uncoated]: Crushed mineral powders that are used to create color in cosmetics. It also has light-reflective properties and is used to create a ‘shimmer’ or ‘glitter’ appearance. Serecite is a form of mica that is untreated and colorless. In this form it’s used to make large pores appear smaller and to absorb oil.

Sesame (Sesamum) Oil: Sesame oil is derived from Sesame seeds and has high concentrations of monounsaturated fatty acids (omega-6 and omega-9). It also contains two naturally occurring preservatives and Vitamin E. It has been used to add flavor to food and has been shown to lower blood pressure in laboratory tests.

Shea Butter (Vitellaria paradoxa): This butter is extracted from the Shea fruit seed and is native to Africa. It has a unique scent (some find it unpleasant) and it’s beige in color; but can be processed to be unscented and white. It’s used to maintain skin moisture.

Soybean (Glycine) Oil: This is a medium weight oil extracted from soybeans. It helps retain skin moisture and is very emollient.

Tocopherol (CAS# 1406-18-4) [Vitamin E]: Vitamin E oil is used as a preservative. It also has antioxidant properties and helps retain moisture when used in cosmetics.

Titanium Dioxide (CAS# 13463-67-7): A natural mineral with light-reflective properties that block UVA and UVB rays providing a natural sunscreen.

Zinc Oxide (CAS# 1314-13-2): The light-reflective properties of zinc oxide provides a drug free natural sunblock offering protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Zinc oxide also acts as a powerful mineral that speeds healing; reduces redness; relieves irritated skin; and has anti-inflammatory properties.
